Producer
The Godoy Tavares family is like ours: the whole family lives for coffee. Therefore, it is difficult not to be biased towards the Brazilian family producing in the mountains of Minas Gerais, but luckily our bias was well-directed. Three generations of knowledge and dedication go into each jute bag of coffee beans, thanks to grandfather Hélió. Originally working as a civil engineer, the man himself inherited the farm from his grandfather, which immediately became his passion. He left city life behind, but the coffees of Fazenda Piedade - fazenda is a specifically Brazilian-Portuguese term for plantation, while piedade means mercy, compassion, sympathy - are now steaming in the mornings in many big cities around the world.
Since Hélio's death, the farm has been managed by his children and his widow, together with six other families, for whom the farm provides not only a living, but also a community, health care for everyone and educational opportunities for the children nearby.
Plantation and Processing
They work on the plantation using environmentally friendly methods, which benefits not only nature, but also coffee. By preserving water bases and natural forests, they also ensure the farm's biodiversity. The coffee beans are also peeled naturally, and they are dried in the sun on terraces.
